The tin just above and left is from around 1900 and next to it is a matching free sample tin that is known to be very scarce. |

These four are rare tins of Himrod’s Asthma Powder with the original packaging. The earliest is dated 1906, then 1912, the next 1929, and the last one has no date but is probably from around 1940. Two are still sealed and all are full of ??? |

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Morell Mackenzie, and Lord Beaconsfield (Benjamin Disraeli) all had asthma apparently. |
Note that this stuff was a “CURE” for rose cold, diphtheria, asthma, catarrh, hay fever, croup, influenza, & ordinary colds. I have found that you take enough morphine you feel cured of anything |
This is from 1890-1905 and contains anti-asthmatic matches which you lit and breathed in...they are full but I haven’t tried this yet. Note the “radical cure” claim on the tin. |

This tin is from around 1888 (as you can see at the bottom of the tin). No mention of ingredients but it sure seems to work according to Mr. Rice and Mr. Peeler. |
From 1905 or so, the large and sample sized tins of Dr. Whetzel’s Asthma Powder. Note the astounding claim to the right, was it true? |

Four different “Dr.” Kinsman’s Asthma Powder tins, the second has 1911 stamped on the lid. Note the changes in claims and wording over time (but not much of a price change over 40 or so years). The newest one finally has a list of ingredients (skunk cabbage?) and is still full. I wonder if there actually ever was a “Dr.” Kinsman? |

BRATER’S asthma powder tins are always in demand by collectors. The one to the left has its original box and is quite rare; from around 1915. |
This is the oldest Brater’s tin I have and the oldest I have seen so far; I believe it is from around 1890-1900. It is about 2 1/2” x 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”. |

Here are the large, 30 cent, and 50 cent sized Brater’s tins from around 1920-1940. They are relatively rare and are still full of the original product. Why did these sit so long with no one ever using the stuff I wonder? |
